2021 La Vie Albariño
Albariño is a white grape most frequently found in Northwest Spain and Portugal. It can also be found in the Alsace and Rhone Valley regions of France. Albariño is most commonly a blending grape in Europe, however the unique climate of the High Plains enables this grape to thrive as a Texas varietal with rich, clean flavors. Arriving on the US wine scene in the mid 1980s, Albariño established a strong following, particularly with those familiar with the Spanish grape, appreciating the differences reflected in this grape grown in American soils.
This medium bodied white wine offers refreshing acidity that stands up well to more complex spices, such as Asian or Indian cuisine. Light gold in color, you will find aromas of banana and pear that will tease your palate. Notes of melon, citrus and honey will combine with a long finish of lemon and apple, perhaps with a hint of almond. The lingering flavor profile matches the aromatics, but also contains notes of minerality. Albariño pairs well with creamy sauces and lighter meats, such as poultry, veal or pork, oysters, ceviche, and all your favorite seafood dishes.
2021 Albariño was quick pressed with an overnight cold soak. Fermented cold and slow. Stainless steel aged for about 6.5 months, with normal primary fermentation only. The grapes are from the Steve and Cindy Newsom Vineyards.
